Sustainability
At Milsons
BUILT FOR LONGEVITY
Why Fastener Quality Matters
Choosing the right fasteners isn’t just a performance decision – it’s a sustainability decision. Long-lasting, corrosion-resistant fasteners reduce material turnover, prevent premature failure, and support whole-of-life efficiency in structures and manufactured products.
✔ Fewer replacements = less waste
✔ Recyclable materials = resource circularity
✔ Trusted specifications = fewer on-site issues
Our Environmental Commitment
Milsons holds ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management Certification, demonstrating our systematic approach to managing environmental responsibilities in a way that contributes to sustainability. We believe that it is possible to execute work efficiently while preventing or reducing negative environmental impacts.
Our commitment includes:
- Protecting the environment and promoting resource efficiency
- Preventing pollution and managing waste responsibly
- Complying with ISO 14001 and all applicable environmental legislation
- Working towards continual improvement across our operations and supply chain
We are focused on reducing our footprint and contributing positively to a lower-impact construction and manufacturing sector in New Zealand.

Sustainable Fastener Materials
Our fasteners are manufactured from stainless steel (304 and 316), carbon steel, and brass — materials known for their recyclability, strength, and long service life:
- Stainless Steel Fasteners: Fully recyclable, highly corrosion-resistant, and designed for long-term durability (up to 50+ years in suitable environments)
- Steel Fasteners: Readily recycled and commonly used in structural applications where high strength reduces total material use
- Brass Fasteners: Recyclable without loss of performance and ideal for applications where longevity and corrosion resistance are key
By supplying high-quality fasteners, we contribute to reduced material waste, fewer product failures, and longer-lasting structural outcomes.
Smarter, Recyclable Packaging
We have eliminated laminated packaging and transitioned to 100% recyclable paper-based materials. Where plastic is required, we use recyclable plastic only and limit its use to what is strictly necessary. Our product labels and boxes are designed for minimal environmental impact while maintaining functionality and visibility for our customers.

Sustainable Operations
Milsons operates with practical, sustainability-focused measures throughout our facilities and logistics:
- Electric forklifts and stock pickers are used across our branches to reduce CO₂ emissions
- A waste management programme is in place, with segregation and recycling of materials where possible
- Wooden pallets are reused and recycled to reduce landfill impact
- Staff engagement in sustainability practices helps embed environmental awareness into daily operations
